ABC notation can also incorporate lyrics, which is very useful for ABC notation songs.
The simplest way to store lyrycs is by using the W:
symbols, which prints all lyrics together, at the end of the tune
X: 1
K: D
W: Hey ho, hey ho!
D |G3F E3
If you want to align lyrics to the note you must use the w:
information field
X: 1
K: D
D |G3F E3
w: Hey ho, hey ho!
With w:
field you can use a set of extra symbol, for a more granular control of note-syllable alignment.
For example, you can use -
to break a word into its syllable:
X: 1
K: D
B B/2B/2 B B/2B/2 BE GB
w: What shallwe do with-a drun-ken sai-lor
